Help choose a new name for Every Newborn Action Plan (ENAP) and Ending Preventable Maternal Mortality (EPMM)
Please send your suggestions to this link: https://bit.ly/NameENAPEPMM by 4 April 2024.
In the maternal and newborn health community, ‘ENAP EPMM’ has been the unofficial name for the Every Newborn Action Plan (ENAP) and Ending Preventable Maternal Mortality (EPMM) for a decade; and shorthand for collective action for maternal and newborn health and the prevention of stillbirths.
However, discussions with partners and peer groups in the maternal and newborn community pointed out that this long-combined acronym does not resonate with many key stakeholders at the country and global levels, new and existing partners, and mainstream audiences.
We are now developing a new identity for ENAP EPMM, with as a fresh, more optimistic angle on reducing maternal and newborn deaths and stillbirths, emphasizing the progress that countries are already driving to achieve the ENAP EPMM targets. And we are turning to you – the main stakeholders of ENAP EPMM - to help us find a new name and tagline. The organisation/group that comes up with the winning name will be acknowledged on the new ENAP EPMM website.
Some guidance about the new name:
What it should be:
· Hopeful, positive
· Focus on people, not problems---more people-centric language
· Short – it will be used on numerous supports
· Unforgettable
· Easy to pronounce (no acronyms!)
What it should do:
· Demonstrate that progress is possible before the end of the SDGs;
· Be the foundation of a brand/initiative that works along the lifecourse, as it evolves.
Finally, as you contemplate name options: the new name does not have to describe everything the initiative stands for: it will always be used in context, and the context will include referencing ENAP EPMM. We are looking for a name that stands out and sticks!

We will organize a consultation in April to review the best submissions and agree on 1-2 name(s), which will then be tested with key audiences.
Thank you for your ongoing support.
